Wishes in the New Year…

Its midnight…Everything is bright and colorful that illuminates the dark sky…You can hear the laughter and screams of the people on the beach… Dubai is celebrating the New Year and all the people are gathered in Jumeriah beach… People can smell the smoke of the fireworks that covers the atmosphere…Feel the explosion of the fireworks as a burst of pleasure… Taste the delicious cake from Jumeirah Beach Hotel made especially for this occasion…How wonderful is the place of celebration that makes Jumeirah emanate joy over the sky of Dubai.

The New Year is not just an event occurring every year to celebrate the “new” year and say goodbye to the past year. It is the night where wishes are spreading in the universe waiting for them to become true. Every person has his own wish to achieve. The father wishes to succeed in his work and provide a good living for his family. The mother wishes that the next year will be much easier to raise her children. The student wishes to graduate from school and accomplish her future goals. All of these people have a common wish which is that this New Year will be a year full of joy and happiness, and it will compensate the suffering people who have struggled with for a long time.

Thinking about wishes encourages people to be optimistic in their lives, which is a good medication to forget all the pain that people have suffered in their past years.

The Magic of Being a Creative Writer

Since we started the Creative Writing class we noticed some differences between this kind of writing and the usual academic writing we used to write before. The magic of being a creative writer is all about the sensation the creative writer can express in her/his piece of writing. For example, when I named my blog “Green Sunshine,” I wanted the green sunshine to evoke the five senses. Here is a poem about green sunshine:

Green sunshine is a glittery grassy light
like a fresh lemon in a feverish summer,
a warm coat wraps your body
with the little sparkles
coming through the skin .

The amusing part in writing ingeniously is that there are no boundaries for the imagination. I can fly with my dreams without a fear of having any structural mistakes like in academic writing. For example, Feel free...Fly high in your thoughts…Dive deep in your emotions...Don’t be afraid to reveal your persona.

As it is clear from the previous example, these creative sentences aren’t obligated to be combined into one academic sentence with parallel phrases. The repetitive imperative structure is the way I am using “syntax” to develop my thoughts and express my feelings.

The farther I as a creative writer reaches with my thoughts the better my writing will be. I know it’s amazing; there is nothing better than being a free bird flying in the high sky of our own dreams.

Oh Earth of UAE, You Are So Unfortunate!!!

Goodbye cultural invaders who came to Dubai for the numerous jobs we have. Goodbye punishments and babysitting on weekends. Goodbye burning sun of the desert, traffic on Sheik Zayed Road and the crowded malls on Fridays. Goodbye stinky smells from the many fish markets and homeless cats in the streets. Oh earth of UAE.. you are too worthy to be invaded by these unpleasant aspects of life.

Oh Earth of UAE, You Are So Wonderful!!!

Goodbye sea in Jumeirah and its soft sand. Goodbye mom, dad, my sisters, and my lovely friends. Goodbye my sweet, warm purple room, the delicious spicy rice and the salty Maleh and the chit-chats in the family meetings on weekends at my grandpa’s house. Goodbye to having fun all the time and for being a spoiled little girl. Goodbye to the Arabian coffee in the afternoons and the wonderful woody incense smell of my mother’s home. Oh earth of UAE, you are so wonderful…

Lubaz

Lubaz is a Shamanistic 42 year old Native American who wants to achieve his goal in protecting his land from any harm. Nature is Lubaz’s passion because is the place he grew up in. Being in such a heavenly place is what Lubaz is blessed for, and he thanks God every day he wakes up for this generous gift. The most favorite place to Lubaz is the highest peak of the mountain in the early morning before the dawn to watch the beginning of the new day. Watching the shining light emanating from the sun spreading the warmth and the energy across the place, hearing the nature songs from the birds and the flowing water from the valley, smelling the fresh air distributed in the meadow, this is the daily schedule for Lubaz every morning. Nature is the source Lubaz gets his strength from, so he won’t ever abandon this place to any selfish invader from the city. He’ll protect his land and the animals no matter what difficulties he’ll face.

The Litany

You are the ink and the pen,
the cup and the green tea.
You are the moon in a clear night
and the shinning pearl in the deep dark ocean.
You are the eagle in the highest mountain peak.
and the sunshine flower in the spring.

However, you are not the storm in the sea,
the black duck in the lake,
or the worm in the ground.
And you are certainly not the burning sun in mid day,
There is just no way you are the burning sun.

It might interest you to know,
Speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the warm sunshine in the early morning.

I am also the crystalline pure water,
And the roar of a wild lion.
But don’t worry, I am not the ink and the pen.
You are still the ink and the pen.
You will always be the ink and the pen ,
Not to mention the cup and –somehow- the green tea.

Inspiration

Joy emanates from heaven.
Dressed as an angel.
Leaving a trail of peace behind him.

My Secret Tool

My favorite place is my magic chair. It’s my gate to my imaginary world. I can travel to any place I wish to visit. By this magic way of traveling, my thoughts travel rather than my body. If someone asks me how I can fly, the answer is simple. I can fly by sitting in my magic leather chair, spinning quickly, closing my eyes, and free my mind and soul. Soon I find myself flying up in the sky.

No one can describe the happiness that enters me when I’m flying like a free bird. I’m so light and I can see whatever I imagine. The best place I ever visited was when I went to the blue ocean. My best moments ever were where I could smell the fresh air, hear the seagulls and, watch the whales. Yes, I saw those huge animals, and I was afraid from them.

I was looking into the dark blue ocean and my heart was beating too fast from the extreme joy I was in. Suddenly, I was falling down in my chair. By the time my sisters were calling me, I realized that I had returned back to the reality where I can’t fly. I keep my secret wings hidden away until the time when I use them again to start a new journey somewhere else in this wide universe.

A Good Laugh Is Sunshine

Some people say my name Shamsa means sun. Others say it means sunshine, but all these meanings are related to the light. My friends say that I’m warm, fresh, and full of energy just like the light of the sun. I think I’m lucky to have this name because my grandmother gave it to me. Although I hate my name because it’s old, I think that I’m unique to have it. No matter what I won’t change it.

Most people don’t call me Shamsa. It’s just my formal name. My friends, family and everyone who is close to me in some way call me by my nickname. Some call me Shamoos, others Shamasi, my grandfather calls me Shmaism, my best friend calls me Mooshi, and my other best friend calls me Shishim. Perhaps none of these nicknames is meaningful, but people like to call me by an affectionate name.

If anyone would ask me who am I a part of my name?.. my answer would be that I don’t know, but if the same question where asked to my friends and my family, One of my best friends would say that I’m just as the quote “A good laugh is sunshine in the house”. It was funny when I first heard this, but I’m happy with it and it means a lot to me. Some would say that I’m kind because I like to help anyone who asks me for help. Others would say I’m talkative because I like to talk a lot and speaking is my specialty, also they call me stupid and crazy. I really love the word stupid because to me it has a different meaning than the usual meaning. Stupid means smart talented unique person in demand. These nicknames and characteristics represent my identity among my friends and relatives, so I’m blessed to have them.
